Following a series of meetings with the country’s main political party leaders, the Presidency of the Republic of Kosovo has released a communiqué announcing the launch of a new cycle of consultations by President Vjosa Osmani. These discussions focus on the process of constituting the Assembly of Kosovo, in light of the Constitutional Court’s Judgment in Case No. KO 124/25.
Leaders Present Positions on Assembly Constitution
According to the communiqué, President Osmani held meetings today with acting Prime Minister and leader of Vetëvendosje Movement, Albin Kurti; chairman of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Memli Krasniqi; chairman of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lumir Abdixhiku; and chairman of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj.
The leaders of these parties, the communiqué states, presented their positions regarding the Assembly’s constitution process and their interpretations of the Constitutional Court’s Judgment.
Osmani Urges Consensus and Respect for Constitutional Deadline
President Osmani urged the leaders to reach an agreement on the way forward as quickly as possible, in a spirit of cooperation and good faith, and in the interest of citizens and the state. This is especially crucial given the 30-day deadline set by the Constitutional Court.
The communiqué reiterated President Osmani’s previous statements emphasizing that the failure to constitute new institutions, stemming from the civic will expressed on February 9, harms democratic values and the interests of the state of Kosovo. It also hinders important state benefits and reduces citizens’ trust in institutions.
President Osmani will continue consultative meetings with other parties represented in the Assembly in the coming days, fulfilling her role as a guarantor of constitutional functioning and a representative of the people’s unity in the Republic of Kosovo.
