Albanian President Bajram Begaj hails Pope’s mission for peace and dialogue; highlights Albania’s interfaith harmony during historic Vatican visit.
President of Albania Bajram Begaj led the Albanian delegation at the official inauguration of Pope Leo XIV, held at the Vatican, joining world leaders and dignitaries in welcoming the newly elected head of the Roman Catholic Church.
Following the ceremonial proceedings, President Begaj held a private audience with Pope Leo XIV, extending Albania’s heartfelt congratulations on his election and offering warm wishes for his spiritual leadership.
During the meeting, President Begaj praised the Pope’s mission to promote global peace and foster dialogue among nations, especially in a world grappling with rising conflicts and uncertainty. He described the Holy Father as a moral beacon, inspiring hope, compassion, and unity among people of all faiths.
“Your Holiness, in these times of division and strife, your voice reminds us of our shared humanity and the unyielding power of dialogue and reconciliation,” said President Begaj.
The Albanian head of state emphasized Albania’s own legacy of religious tolerance and coexistence, calling it a priceless heritage nurtured across generations. He underscored that the country serves as a model of interfaith harmony, where respect and understanding flourish between communities of different religious backgrounds.
The president was accompanied on this official visit by Igli Hasani, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, and Majlinda Frangaj, Albania’s Ambassador to the Holy See.
