On Wednesday evening, the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, attended a reception in New York organized by the Albanian American Relations Council (AARC), where she commemorated Sergeant Afrim Bunjaku, who was killed on September 24, 2023, during the terrorist attack in Banjska.

On the anniversary of his sacrifice, President Osmani honored Bunjaku’s heroism, emphasizing that he defended with his life the dignity of the nation and the freedom of Kosovo.

“I will begin with a few words in Albanian for a very special reason. Today marks the anniversary of the fall on the altar of freedom of the hero of Kosovo, Afrim Bunjaku, who two years ago, with the highest heroism, defended the territory of Kosovo, the sovereignty of Kosovo, and above all defended the dignity of our nation. With his sacrifice, he sent a powerful message, not only to us but also to the world, that Kosovo will not break, Kosovo will not surrender, and that Kosovo will forever be free and independent.”

The President added that one of the most meaningful places to honor the fallen heroes is precisely among the Albanian-American community, which has always stood by Kosovo.

“Tonight, there is no better place than among Albanian-Americans to honor those who gave the most precious thing—their lives—so that we can breathe freely today. Glory to all our liberators and all the heroes of our nation,” declared Osmani.
