On the 22nd anniversary of Colonel Tahir Zemaj’s assassination, Kosovo’s President Vjosa Osmani paid tribute to one of the most distinguished figures in the Kosovo Liberation Army (UÇK) and a symbol of the fight for freedom.

In a heartfelt message, President Osmani reflected on Zemaj’s contributions to Kosovo’s liberation and the lasting pain caused by his unsolved murder. Zemaj was assassinated on January 4, 2003, at the entrance of Peja, alongside his son Enis and his cousin Hasan.

“The fact that the perpetrators remain unpunished is a wound that still bleeds and a pain that cannot be erased,” President Osmani emphasized.

She described Zemaj as a courageous and steadfast leader whose legacy continues to inspire future generations. “His name will forever symbolize sacrifice, freedom, and independence,” she said, reiterating the need for justice to bring the perpetrators to account.

Zemaj’s assassination remains one of the most tragic chapters in Kosovo’s recent history. Calls for justice echo across the nation, as citizens and leaders alike remember his sacrifice and that of his family members.

Eternal honor to Colonel Tahir Zemaj, Enis, and Hasan!
