The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, is holding a consultative meeting today with the leaders of Kosovo’s political parties to set the date for upcoming local elections.
The announcement was confirmed on Tuesday by Bekim Kupina, President Osmani’s media advisor, in a statement to Reporteri.net.
“In line with her constitutional responsibilities, President Osmani has invited political parties to a meeting on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, to consult on setting a date for local elections. The President is expected to set the date immediately following the consultations,” Kupina said.
Political Context
The meeting takes place amid a prolonged institutional deadlock, as Kosovo still lacks a fully constituted Assembly nearly three months after the national parliamentary elections.
While the ruling Vetëvendosje (VV) party continues to push for Albulena Haxhiu as Speaker of the Assembly, they have yet to secure sufficient parliamentary support, leaving state institutions in a state of ongoing gridlock.
Today’s consultations are seen as an effort to move forward at the local level, despite the national political impasse.
