President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, held a meeting today with Atdhe Hetemi, Director of the Institute for Crimes Committed During the War (IKKL), to review the institute’s work, discuss ongoing challenges, and emphasize the importance of documenting war crimes committed during the Kosovo conflict.
President Osmani commended the IKKL team for their two years of dedicated work and for submitting the institute’s second annual report. During the meeting, it was highlighted that the IKKL has so far collected approximately 400 linear meters of physical material and over 20 terabytes of digital data, sourced from 650 different contributors.
According to President Osmani, documenting, archiving, and researching crimes from the Kosovo War is crucial not only for preserving the collective memory of the Kosovar people but also for exposing the truth about genocide committed by Serbia.
“We must not allow history to be forgotten. On the contrary, we must strengthen our shared call for justice to prevail,” President Osmani emphasized.
The meeting also underscored the importance of inter-institutional cooperation, particularly with the State Prosecutor’s Office and Kosovo Police, to ensure that all collected evidence is effectively used in judicial processes.
President Osmani further highlighted the need for ongoing collaboration with citizens, encouraging them to contribute materials and testimonies that shed light on the suffering of families during the war.
