President of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani has responded to the veterans’ protest announced for August 7 by the Organization of the Kosovo Liberation Army War Veterans (OVL-UÇK), directed against the Special Court.

In her statement President Osmani expressed deep concern over the acceptance of evidence presented by Serbia, calling such materials historically falsified with the clear intent to rewrite the history of Kosovo’s war for freedom.

“It is deeply troubling that a court established by Kosovo and bound by its constitutional and legal obligations would accept evidence produced by the state of Serbia,” Osmani stated.

“It has been historically proven that Serbia fabricates evidence against the UÇK to discredit our legitimate struggle. These so-called documents aim to distort the truth about the war and undermine our path to justice.”

A Just and Liberation War

President Osmani emphasized that the Kosovo Liberation Army (UÇK) fought a legitimate and liberation war against the genocidal regime of Slobodan Milošević.

“There is no attempt—no matter how coordinated or malicious—that can tarnish the just and rightful struggle of the UÇK and the people of Kosovo.

The war was waged to protect our people from systematic violence and genocide. It was a war for freedom, dignity, and survival.”

Call for National Unity

President Osmani also called for national unity in defending the values of the war.

“It is unfortunate that remnants of Milošević’s regime continue to lead Serbia today. The same dangerous mentality persists, and they are still using the same old methods.

We—as institutions, as a people, and as a nation—must stand together to protect and uphold the truth and values of our liberation war.”
