President Vjosa Osmani is set to hold a press conference at 13:00, following the decree she signed earlier today to dissolve the Assembly of Kosovo.
The information was confirmed by Osmani’s adviser, Bekim Kupina.
The decision to dissolve the Assembly—and subsequently set the stage for announcing the date of new parliamentary elections—came after the second consecutive failure to form a new government. Yesterday’s parliamentary session saw the collapse of the attempt led by the second mandate-holder.
Earlier today, President Osmani convened the leaders of political parties before signing the decree on dissolution.
According to Reporteri.net, during the meeting:
- Albin Kurti, leader of Vetëvendosje (VV), and Faton Peci of the Guxo party proposed 28 December as the election date.
- Bedri Hamza (PDK), Lumir Abdixhiku (LDK), and Ramush Haradinaj (AAK) favored 21 December.
- Fatmir Limaj (Nisma Socialdemokrate) suggested 21 December or 11 January, arguing that elections cannot be held on 4 January or 28 December due to end-of-year holidays.
The official election date is expected to be announced following the President’s public address.
