Vjosa Osmani has officially dissolved the Assembly of Kosovo, announcing the decision on Friday and confirming that the country will head toward new elections.

Speaking briefly to the media, the president said the situation could have been avoided and described the outcome as regrettable for the state.

“I am here before you because the representatives of the people last night decided to send the country to new elections. This situation was completely avoidable. It is a great misfortune for this state that they did not choose the interest of the Republic of Kosovo,” Osmani stated.

She added that, in accordance with the Constitution of Kosovo, she has issued a decree dissolving the Assembly, fulfilling what she described as a clear constitutional obligation.

“Therefore, today, in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo, I have issued the decree to dissolve the Assembly, and through this decree I am fulfilling the constitutional obligation clearly defined,” she said.

After delivering her statement, President Osmani did not take questions from journalists.

The decision paves the way for early parliamentary elections, following the political deadlock that prevented the formation of new institutions.
