The leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Albin Kurti, has declared victory in the December 28 elections, stating that his party is on track to become the largest it has ever been in Kosovo’s history.
He also addressed the issue of the President.
Excerpts from his speech:
“First, we must wait for certification by the CEC. Then we will immediately constitute the Assembly and form the government. I am interested in cooperation with the opposition on international agreements, the Growth Plan, and agreements with the World Bank.
Blockades are no longer possible.
It is far too early to talk about this now; tonight we will celebrate. Happy New Year 2026.
However, of course, we will not delay this matter. We will need to discuss the future President with the opposition as well. But first, I will speak with the current President to see what the next steps are. As is known, for the election of the President we need 80 deputies present in the chamber, and for that reason discussions are necessary. But this is not even the second step—it is the third. First comes certification.”
