The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, stated that on the 17th anniversary of Independence, they are bringing together history, sacrifice, and national pride in a solemn act of decorating those who made Kosovo free and many others who continue to help the country move forward.

“On this sacred day, we do not only commemorate a date, in fact, we honor a glorious era of our people. 17 years as a state, but a much longer struggle to show the world that Kosovo is eternal. In this special ceremony, we remember and honor those who gave everything for the freedom of this country,” said the head of state.

Osmani made these statements during a special ceremony for the presentation of Presidential Decorations to prominent local and international figures.

She said that the Jashari family is the foundation upon which the freedom of Kosovo was built.

“A living moment of sacrifice and unparalleled heroism. In human history, it is rare that an entire family sacrifices itself for the sacred ideal of freedom, becoming a symbol of resistance and national dignity, and a motivation for thousands of KLA soldiers. From the first bullet to the heroic resistance of March 1998, the Jasharis were never broken, never retreated; they actually embraced immortality,” said Osmani, adding that for the first time, the entire Jashari family would be decorated with state medals, a fact that, according to her, shows that the state of Kosovo does not forget their sublime sacrifice.

“Today, we will award the title of hero to Shaban Jashari, the one who inspired his family and sons. The head of the Jashari family, and the head of the entire large family called Kosovo. However, until today, the Jashari family, as the emblem of freedom and a symbol of sublime sacrifice, had not been fully decorated.”

“Therefore, I have the honor, on behalf of the people of Kosovo, to fully decorate the Jashari family today, as an act that seeks to fulfill this historical gap by recognizing the collective sacrifice of each member of this family who fought for the freedom of Kosovo,” said Osmani.
