The Union of Workers of the Regional Company “Pastrimi” announced that the removal of garbage trucks parked near the Prishtina Municipality building would begin at 2:00 PM, while simultaneously confirming that their strike will continue until their demands are met.
The Union expressed its support for the Supreme Court’s decision, which ruled that invoices for waste collection services must be paid exclusively to “Pastrimi.” However, they stressed that the strike will persist in the Municipality’s courtyard until their requests are fulfilled.
The Union also apologized to citizens and businesses “whose activities have been hindered due to the parking of our company’s vehicles.”
Following the Supreme Court’s verdict, the unionists presented their demands to the Municipality of Prishtina. Key among them were the return of financial means, a public call for all payments to be invoiced and collected solely through “Pastrimi,” the removal of private waste operators, and a guarantee of constructive and cooperative engagement in the future.
“All illegally collected financial means by the Municipality of Prishtina must be returned as soon as possible so that we can begin waste collection,” stated the Union’s letter to the Municipality. “There must be a public announcement by the relevant municipal authorities calling for invoicing and payments to be made exclusively through KRM Pastrimi. Private operators must be completely removed from waste collection operations, and the full implementation of the current regulation must begin.”
The Union also demanded an end to any misinterpretations by municipal authorities, asserting that “any action outside the Verdict is illegal and violates the rights of 900 workers, who risk being left jobless.” They also called for a more constructive and cooperative approach in the future, ensuring the Union is informed and involved in all decisions affecting workers’ rights.
