The capital of Kosovo is moving forward with the creation of a memorial park and presidential library dedicated to Dr. Ibrahim Rugova, the first President of the Republic and widely regarded as the architect of Kosovo’s independence.

Mayor Perparim Rama announced the latest developments, revealing that the evaluation committee has selected six final proposals, which are now being reviewed by an international jury of high repute.

“This project is not merely an investment in culture and history—it is an act of national honor and responsibility, preserving the life, work, and legacy of President Rugova for future generations,” Rama stated.

Located in the heart of Prishtina, the project aims to be a symbolic and functional space that pays tribute to Rugova’s enduring influence on Kosovo’s statehood and democratic values.

Rama described the future site as:

“A space that speaks the language of memory, pride, and identity—a meeting point between our nation-building spirit and Kosovo’s European future.”

The initiative is part of a broader vision to position Prishtina as a city that honors its past, reflects on its journey, and leads toward progress.

The memorial and library are expected to become cultural landmarks and a source of inspiration, particularly for younger generations who will have access to Rugova’s documented legacy and philosophy of peaceful resistance and civic leadership.
