Preparations are nearly complete for the implementation of full-day schooling in five schools across Pristina, set to begin on September 1.

Hallways have been renovated, classrooms reorganized, and facilities prepared to welcome students into the second phase of the full-day learning program in the capital.

At “Ganimete Terbeshi” School, this initiative will be introduced for the first time, with students from grades 1 through 5 attending from 08:30 to 15:30.

School director Shkurte Gashi said the local community has strongly welcomed the reform:

“The decision has been extremely well-received because it ensures inclusiveness in education. Children from ‘Ganimete Terbeshi’ will now have equal opportunities with those in central schools. Parents are pleased knowing their children will engage in school activities throughout the day.”

According to Samir Shahini, Director of Education in Pristina Municipality, preparations have been extensive, including upgrades to sanitary facilities, replacement of doors and windows, and refurbishments. The most essential improvement, he said, is the establishment of school kitchens, which will provide daily meals for about 1,850 students.

“We have already scheduled lessons and extracurricular activities with teachers and directors across the five schools. Almost everything is ready for classes to officially start on September 1,” Shahini noted.

Education expert Rinor Qehaja emphasized that full-day schooling must be treated as a responsibility to students rather than a political promise:

“This program has been in pilot stages for several years and has proven successful in Pristina. It should now be adopted more widely, not as an electoral pledge, but as a commitment to ensuring quality education and meaningful time spent in school.”

In addition to “Ganimete Terbeshi,” the full-day schooling program will begin this year at:

  • “Zenel Hajdini” and “Pjetër Bogdani” schools in Pristina
  • “Ditët e Minatorit” in Kishnicë
  • “Avni Rrustemi” in Mramur
  • “Teuta” in Grashticë
