The Kosovo Specialist Prosecutor’s Office (SPO) has requested that former President Hashim Thaçi be banned from receiving visits from 14 individuals — including his three brothers, Gani, Nazmi, and Blerim Thaçi, as well as PDK MP Artan Behrami.

Thaçi has been under a restricted visitation regime for over a year and a half in detention, allowed only close family visits and up to five monthly visits from other friends and relatives. Despite 24/7 surveillance with Albanian translators, the SPO claims these measures are insufficient.

According to Klan Kosova, the SPO argues that certain visitors still pose a risk of passing unauthorized messages or instructions, referencing a February 2025 video call between Thaçi and another accused, Haxhi Shala. They say this proves such risks can never be fully eliminated.

Thaçi’s defense, led by lawyer Sophie Menegon, rejected the request, calling it baseless and noting no new evidence or violations have been presented compared to restrictions imposed in November 2023. She also stressed that only five of the 14 listed individuals have visited Thaçi since those measures took effect — two of whom discussed only general matters, and one who is a defense team consultant authorized to share confidential information.

The pre-trial judge has requested further information on one individual before deciding on the SPO’s request. Among the names is also Vllaznim Kryeziu, mentioned in Thaçi’s second indictment for alleged obstruction of justice.
