The Prime Minister of Serbia, Gjuro Macut, is making his first visit to Novi Sad since taking office, an event marked by protests organized by students and numerous citizens, Rks News reports.

According to N1, protesters gathered near the building of the Matica Srpska cultural center, where Macut is currently present. Riot police formed a security cordon to prevent demonstrators from approaching the main entrance of the venue.

The crowd chanted slogans such as “thieves,” “murderers,” and “your hands are bloody”, expressing their discontent with the new government and the policies represented by the prime minister.

Student Vukašin Đinović stated that the protest is a response to the restrictions on freedom of movement in the city.
“We came here to meet that man. A large number of citizens don’t even know what our prime minister looks like. We want to tell him that he is not welcome in this city because this is a cultural city that respects its history,” Đinović declared.
