The blockade of the judicial building in Novi Sad continued on 20 August, starting at 6:00 AM as citizens were called to gather. Around 7:30 AM, police intervened, arriving in riot gear and dismantling the blockade.
Police Action
A police officer reportedly announced via megaphone that demonstrators must disperse and cease disturbing public order, warning that action would follow if they did not comply, as shown in footage from TV N1.
Following the announcement, police pushed demonstrators away from the building entrance, including journalists, and established a cordon to allow employees unobstructed access. The building’s courtyard gate was locked, with officers stationed inside the premises.
Protesters’ Demands
The blockade, similar to the one on 19 August, was planned to last until 3:00 PM, affecting both the court and the prosecutor’s office. Students from Novi Sad faculties and civic groups called for the protest, demanding the release of all individuals detained in the past days.
During the 19 August blockade, provincial MP Radivoje Jovović and activist Isidora Čeleketić from the Free Citizens Movement were detained. They are suspected of obstructing official duties and held in police custody for up to 48 hours.
