This evening, protests called “Against Blockades” are taking place in several Serbian cities, organized by activists close to the ruling party as well as by those supporting the student movement.
The protests were announced in Gornji Milanovac, Belgrade, Zrenjanin, Niš, Vranje, Kraljevo, Sombor, Kikinda, and Pirot. Organizers were identified as the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) or the Center for Social Stability, which, according to reports, maintains close ties with the authorities.
In Belgrade, citizens who gathered at the “FON” park in Vojvode Stepe were surrounded by police on both sides, preventing them from moving toward Trošarina or Autokomanda, while SNS supporters who marched along Liberation Boulevard were dispersed.
Velimir, from the Vozhdovac assembly, told N1 media:
“I don’t know whom we threatened by being where we were. It is clear that the police are carrying out selective actions based on the instructions of one man. We do not feel safe.”
He added that the police ignored their accusations that there were “thugs” in Vojvode Stepe.
