Tensions erupted overnight in Belgrade, where student groups blocked the headquarters of the public television RTS in the city center.
After taking action just before midnight, the protesters stated that the action would continue for 22 hours.
“Everyone will be able to leave the building, but no one will be allowed to enter,” said the organizers.
A police unit that arrived at the scene to ensure the exit of the staff was attacked, and an officer was sent to the hospital with an eye injury. No other significant incidents have been reported so far.
President Aleksandar Vučić immediately went to the hospital to visit the injured police officer, reports A2 CNN.
“The violent think they are allowed to do anything. This is not the case. They will answer for every violent act they commit,” he wrote on Instagram.
In solidarity with their colleagues in Belgrade, students in Novi Sad also blocked the entrances to the Radio Television of Vojvodina (RTV) headquarters overnight. Heavy police forces have arrived at the scene.
