Hundreds of people participated in a protest in Berlin on Sunday in support of Turkish opposition leader Ekrem Imamoglu, whose arrest has sparked the worst street unrest in Turkey in over a decade.
Organizers stated that around 1,000 people took part in the demonstration in central Berlin.
Many of them wore masks of Imamoglu or held banners with slogans like “We are all Imamoglu” and denounced Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
“With Erdogan’s government, Turkey is going in the wrong direction,” said a Turkish trader.
Hundreds of thousands of people have taken to the streets in Turkey since Imamoglu was arrested on March 19 on corruption charges that his supporters say are false.
The massive protests have triggered a repressive government response, which has been strongly condemned by human rights groups and drawn criticism from abroad.
