The Chair of the Central Election Commission (CEC), Kreshnik Radoniqi, addressed concerns raised during the day regarding assisted voting in Kosovo’s runoff local elections.
Radoniqi clarified that individuals who cannot read or write are assisted only up to the voting booth, but they must cast their vote themselves once inside.
“For the sake of accurate information, we find it necessary to clarify that voting with assistance for people with disabilities — those who cannot physically cast their ballot — is guaranteed by the election law and CEC regulations,” Radoniqi explained.
“However, this right should not be abused by individuals who are not part of that category.”
He emphasized that, according to CEC electoral regulations, to prevent misuse, the voter’s disability must be proven through appropriate documentation.
“We call on polling station councils to make fair and proper assessments,” Radoniqi added.
The next CEC press conference is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
