Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Monday that Albania now possesses Javelin missile systems, patrol vessels, and advanced radar technology, while also having the best-paid military in the region, surpassing Serbia.
Speaking at his annual press conference, Rama highlighted recent developments in Albania’s defense and security sector, emphasizing cooperation with NATO allies.
“Our ambition is to reach the average financial standards of NATO countries,” Rama said, noting that Albania now has Javelin missile systems, three patrol ships donated by Italy, and radar systems acquired through cooperation with France.
The prime minister stressed that Albania currently has the highest-paid armed forces in the region, including Serbia, marking what he described as a major step forward in strengthening national defense capabilities.
Rama also outlined plans to develop Albania’s domestic military industry, calling it a strategic national priority. “We will produce combat drones and anti-drone systems. In 2026, you will see the first products,” he told journalists.
He added that the government is continuing efforts to sign new contracts in the naval and aviation defense industries, aiming to position Albania as a regional producer of military equipment.
