The Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, delivered his opening speech today at the first plenary session of the European Leaders’ Community, taking place in Tirana—an event of great importance for Albania’s integration and positioning in the European arena.

In his address, Rama spoke with symbolic and emotional tones about the significance of this event for the Albanian people and the country’s European future.

“For my country and the Albanian people, it is an honor to welcome you to this place, to this home built specifically for the European political community, where you are not surrounded by the nightmares of Europe, but by the imagination of Albanian children for Europe.”

Rama emphasized that Albania has chosen not to dwell on the myths of the past but to focus on the European future that Albanian children dream of.

“It was a clear choice for us, because children’s dreams should not be held hostage by the myths of the past—they dream of the future. You’ve come at a meaningful moment when we have learned to view the past through the eyes of the future.”

He also touched on the recent elections and the prominent role the European theme played in public debate.

“Your arrival follows an election campaign where Europe was more present than ever—not as a list of policies, but as a sense of belonging, a shared destiny. That’s why it is such a pleasure that the campaign was centered on Europe, identity, belonging—and it won more than 52% of the vote.”
