Prime Minister Edi Rama is in Abu Dhabi attending the Sustainable Development Week Summit, under the special patronage of President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

In his panel speech, Rama stated that by the end of 2028, Albania will be a fully sovereign country and will no longer need to import energy.

“We are fortunate to have hydro resources and are 100% reliant on renewable energy. We are at the highest level in the rankings. But remember, water resources mean we depend on the will of Allah. When there is no rainfall, we have to turn to imports, and that makes things difficult. We have invested in solar and wind energy so that we no longer need to rely on imports. The plan is progressing well, and we believe that by the end of 2028 we will be sovereign and not purchase energy from abroad.

We have a strategic cooperation, and I want to highlight that this has happened thanks to your country and its great leader, who has a vision for humanity that goes beyond borders.

He aims to serve humanity and impact the lives of hundreds of millions of people outside your country. Our ambition is to establish a trilateral cooperation with the United Arab Emirates and Italy. Through the interconnection cable with Italy, we aim to serve Europe,” Rama said.
