Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has sharply criticized Albanian citizens, claiming they are the biggest polluters of parks and tourist sites in the country, not foreign tourists.

During an event marking the summer tourist season, Rama stated that even in the most beautiful tourist areas, large amounts of litter accumulate.

“Not tourists who speak English, Spanish, French, or Italian, but Albanian speakers—from Albania, Kosovo, and North Macedonia. Albanians who gather to enjoy the scenery and take vacations, stopping at panoramic tourist spots, take selfies saying ‘Oh, my beautiful Albania,’ and at the same time throw trash from their vehicles,” Rama said.

He emphasized that littering is most visible in areas where visitors stop to rest and take photos.

“And if you look at the panoramic spots, the areas where people can stop are also the areas with the largest accumulations of personal-use trash. I am convinced that the biggest polluters are the loudest at the national stadium, the ones who break chairs and turn matches—especially against Serbia or others—into fights. Meanwhile, these same people are the polluters of Albania when it comes to behavior on beaches,” he added.
