The Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, announced that the government will undertake a legal initiative to facilitate the registration of children of Albanians living in the UK, including those who were registered as Kosovo refugees after 1999.

Rama emphasized that this initiative aims to improve the situation for those who have faced legal difficulties in registering their children in Albania.

While addressing the Albanian diaspora in London, Rama highlighted that the government will work to allow the re-entry of parents’ names into official documents for those who wish to do so.

“We will launch a legal initiative for the hassle-free registration in Albania of all children whose parents were registered as Kosovo refugees here in the UK. We will make diplomatic efforts to allow all of you to restore your father’s and mother’s names in all cases where you wish it. It was in 1999 when refugees from Kosovo flooded into Albania to escape the butcher of Belgrade, and the Albanian people stood up to protect each of the Kosovo Albanians who arrived in our country with their hearts burning from the flames of their homes and only the clothes on their backs. It was precisely during that time when many of us, who escaped the ruins of the pyramid schemes, were registered as political refugees from Kosovo,” said Rama, according to RTSH.

The Prime Minister also criticized the harsh political rhetoric used against Albanians in Great Britain, specifically addressing the strong statements of former Home Secretary Suella Braverman. Rama stated that such rhetoric could distort historical truths, and that Albanian diplomacy would no longer tolerate this.

“That lady who pointed her finger at you is no longer in power, while you are here. In the harsh rhetoric of politics, here or in Europe, where the biggest ‘don’t know what to do with the donkey but hit it with the Samaritan,’ the Albanians are simply the victims of the blindness of the power struggle. Such rhetoric does not distort the truth but clouds the present and the future. When it is said that travelers without visas have occurred in history from here to Albania and not the other way around, it was a time when Lord Byron and Edith Durham traveled to the Albanian lands and left inspired by the beauty of the country, the costumes, the customs, and the spiritual characteristics of the Albanian people. A people who never fought with other nations on their soil and never closed their doors when they sought protection,” said Rama.
