TIRANA – Prime Minister of Albania Edi Rama has announced that his government will introduce “radical measures” for next year’s summer tourism season, details of which will be made public in September.
Speaking on Sunday, Rama criticized parts of the tourism industry for failing to think strategically, warning that short-term profit-driven practices could undermine long-term growth.
“A part of the industry is not thinking strategically at all — it’s thinking only about grabbing what it can today, and in doing so, it’s digging its own grave for tomorrow,” Rama said. “All these investments they are making will not be repaid and will not become sustainable for their children if today they set prices that will quickly spread the word that Albania is too expensive.”
The prime minister also noted progress in beach management this year but described it as insufficient. He said municipalities will be given greater authority in 2025, while also stressing the need to “shake up” local governments to raise performance levels.
Rama reaffirmed that the “Urban Renaissance 2.0” program will continue for four years and will not be paused during the tourist season, rejecting suggestions that such works could be postponed until winter.
