Tours, France – July 21, 2025 — A rare and powerful tornado struck the city of Tours in central France on Monday morning, creating a dramatic scene as it passed directly through the city’s airport.

Footage captured from the airport’s control tower showed a clearly visible intense rotation, with debris being lifted tens of meters into the air, shocking local authorities and residents alike.

According to Météo Centre – Val de Loire, the storm caused significant damage, although a full assessment has yet to be completed. The Indre-et-Loire department was under a “yellow vigilance” warning, which indicates a relatively low-level alert but does not rule out the possibility of dangerous weather events.

The French Observatory for Tornadoes and Severe Storms (Keraunos) had previously issued a warning for a potential rotating storm phenomenon in the region, estimating the likelihood at 5% to 15% — a relatively rare but serious forecast for mainland France.

Authorities have launched on-site investigations to assess the tornado’s intensity and classification, as cleanup efforts begin and residents are urged to remain cautious.

No injuries have been reported as of now, but local officials are monitoring the situation closely due to potential structural risks and further weather instability.
