The Minister for Communities and Returns, Nenad Rashiq, says there is a decline in the influence of the Serbian List in the north.

“There is a decline in influence as you mentioned, but I must say that we as the institutions of Kosovo need to do much more than we are doing at the moment. There is a group there that threatens anyone who wants to participate in the municipal governments with Albanian mayors. Today I have sent a proposal for a possible appointment for a deputy mayor in one of the municipalities,” said Rashiq.

The minister from the Serbian community accused past governments of non-inclusion in the four northern municipalities.

“In particular, there is an element that has hindered the most, and that is silent support from the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo, and this for me has been a scandalous story, that for the sake of numbers in parliament, people in the past were ready to do anything just to have 61 deputies in the parliament of Kosovo. Therefore, these are the results of previous work, which were without moral integrity and without political integrity,” he said.

Rashiq also emphasized that now there is an increased interest among Serbs in the north to get employed.

“There is an extraordinary interest among citizens, life cannot wait, it continues. I regret that we have lost years or decades waiting for some ‘big boss’ to decide for us, but the only ones who decide our fate are us,” he said.

In April 2023, four Albanians, two from the Democratic Party of Kosovo and two others from the Vetëvendosje Movement, were elected mayors for the first time in municipalities with a Serbian majority.
