The Municipal Inspectorate of North Mitrovica has suspended the operations of the Serbian Health Insurance Fund and the Disability and Pension Insurance Fund, both operating under Serbia’s system in northern Kosovo.
The move has drawn criticism from the European Union, which condemned the closure of the offices, describing it as “another uncoordinated action by the government in office.”
In response, Deputy Prime Minister Besnik Bislimi rejected the accusations, clarifying that no health institution in the four northern municipalities had been targeted.
“Not even the illegal ones established by Serbia (nobody understands the legal meaning of the commonly used phrase ‘Serbia-run institutions in Kosovo’). Instead, Kosovo is working on a solution to integrate them into our legal framework, ensuring there is no disruption in healthcare services and providing maximum accommodation for medical staff,” Bislimi wrote on X.
He further explained that local trade inspectors temporarily suspended the activities of a fund that was illegally issuing invoices and conducting transactions, pending the submission of relevant documentation.
Bislimi also accused Serbia of spreading mass disinformation:
“We are truly impressed by Serbia’s ability to manipulate public opinion with mass production of fake news. However, it is important to treat these only as propaganda tools and nothing more.”
