Officials of Republika Srpska, the Serbian entity of Bosnia-Herzegovina, arrived in Serbia on Friday, shortly before the organization of the Serbian National Council, which will be held on June 7 and 8 in Belgrade.
The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, said on Friday in front of the media that this is a “great demonstration”, through which Serbia wants to show “not only unity in views, but also unity in determination not to hide belonging to the same people “.
“As for Republika Srpska, we want to show respect for the Dayton Agreement, for Serbia and Republika Srpska, military neutrality and many other principles.”
It has also been announced that a government meeting will be held, in which the Declaration for the protection of national and political rights, as well as for the protection of the property of the Serbian people, is expected to be approved.
The Minister of Labour, Veterans and Social Affairs in the Government of Serbia, Nemanja Starović, said on June 7, in a television appearance, that the declaration will respect the Dayton Agreement, the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina, “the sovereignty of the neighboring state, but also sovereignty and integrity of Republika Srpska within Bosnia-Herzegovina”.
A day ago, the Serbian National Council and the Government of Serbia have approved protocols and memorandum of cooperation with the Government of Republika Srpska.
Initially, the organization was planned to take place on May 5 and 6, but the President of the Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, has asked President Vucic to hold the meeting after the adoption of the Resolution on Srebrenica in the General Assembly of the United Nations.
The resolution was adopted on May 23 and declares July 11 as the International Day of Remembrance of the Srebrenica Genocide and condemns the denial of the genocide and the glorification of war criminals.
Serbia has lobbied against the adoption of the resolution, because official Belgrade does not recognize the genocide in Srebrenica, but only considers it a “terrible crime”.
On May 30, after the meeting with Dodik, Vucic said that the unity of the Serbian people “will be strongly confirmed” in Parlament.a for the protection of national and political rights, as well as for the protection of the Serbian people.
Dodik said in a press conference on May 23 that he will seek the support of the Serbian leadership regarding “the separation of Republika Srpska from the Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina”.
A day later, Vucic said that “I cannot” comment on this initiative, and that peace must be preserved “at any cost”.
On May 30, the Government of the Republika Srpska appointed a working group, with the aim of drafting a proposal for an agreement for “peaceful secession” in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Attempts for such divisions in Bosnia-Herzegovina constitute a violation of the Dayton Agreement and the state Constitution./REL/
