A proposed resolution concerning the respect of criminal procedure standards in cases against former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) failed to pass in the Foreign Policy Committee of the Assembly of North Macedonia after Macedonian MPs boycotted the meeting, preventing the vote from taking place.
According to reports, only MPs from Albanian political parties and blocs were present, including representatives of the European Front, VLEN, the Alliance for Albanians, and MP Rexhep Ismail from the Left. The absence of Macedonian MPs made it impossible for the committee to approve the resolution, effectively halting the process.
Albanian MPs described the boycott as intentional, arguing that it blocked discussion and decision-making on the proposed resolution. As a result, the debate has been postponed indefinitely.
It was noted that all Albanian members of the committee with voting rights attended the meeting, including MPs Merita Koxhaxhiku and Skender Rexhepi. Ilire Dauti, who serves as a deputy member, was also present as one of the initiators of the resolution.
The development highlights ongoing political divisions within the parliament over issues related to the trials of former KLA leaders and broader regional sensitivities tied to the Kosovo conflict.
