Kosovo has agreed to a U.S. request to accept 50 deported migrants per year, Reuters reported on Wednesday, citing a government statement.

Below is the translated version of the Reuters article:

Kosovo has accepted a request to receive migrants deported from the United States, with an initial plan to take in 50 deportees annually, the government said in a statement to Reuters on Wednesday.

“The government has expressed its willingness to participate, with the option to select individuals from a proposed group, provided they meet specific criteria related to the rule of law and public order.”

The United States is seeking partners to receive third-country nationals as it aims to fulfill President Donald Trump’s promise of record-level deportations.

Kosovo, a Balkan country of 1.6 million people, already has an agreement to host 300 prisoners from Denmark starting in 2027 in exchange for €210 million over the next decade. It has also shown interest in accepting deportees from the United Kingdom.

Kosovo-U.S. relations remain particularly strong, given Washington’s leadership in supporting Kosovo’s 2008 declaration of independence from Serbia.

“We deeply value their support,” the statement said.
