Renowned academician and writer Rexhep Qosja expressed his condolences following the death of former Albanian Prime Minister Fatos Nano, describing him as a versatile figure in Albanian politics and culture.
Qosja Remembers Nano
In his statement, Qosja said that news of Nano’s passing brought him “a silent sorrow”, but also evoked memories of a period that shaped Albania’s political consciousness and state development.
“Fatos Nano was one of the most versatile figures in Albanian public life — a politician with broad culture, a polemicist with determined thought who never hid his passions or contradictions,” Qosja wrote on Facebook.
He praised Nano for striving to forge a new balance between socialism and democracy, tradition and modernity, and individual freedom and state responsibility.
“Today, with his departure, a comprehensive and long chapter of transformations in our historical life comes to a close — by people who entered politics as a mission,” Qosja added.
Qosja emphasized that Nano will remain a symbol of an era that sought to build state freedom through socialist, democratic, and national reasoning.
