U.S. Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources, Richard R. Verma, is embarking on a significant diplomatic visit to Kosovo, Albania, and Serbia from January 7 to 11. The Department of State has outlined the key topics that Verma will address during his trip, which include regional stability, economic growth, energy security, and deepening U.S. relations with each nation.

In Kosovo, Verma will prioritize discussions on the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia through dialogue, the strengthening of governance and the rule of law, and the promotion of economic growth and energy security. He will also express appreciation to the Kosovo government for its steadfast support of Ukraine and its humanitarian efforts toward Afghan refugees.

During his stop in Albania, Verma will focus on Albania’s democratic advancements, defense capabilities, and enhancing economic cooperation with the U.S. He will also thank the Albanian government for its continuous support of U.S. allies, particularly Afghan refugees.

In Serbia, Verma will emphasize the growing U.S.-Serbia strategic partnership, particularly in the energy sector, and offer support for Serbia’s European integration. He will also stress the importance of normalizing Serbia’s relations with Kosovo and strengthening bilateral cooperation on military and security matters.

At the end of his trip, Verma will reaffirm the U.S.’s commitment to the Western Balkans, particularly in terms of their euroatlantic integration and regional cooperation.

Verma’s visit follows a productive meeting with EU Special Representative for Kosovo-Serbia Dialogue, Miroslav Lajčak, where they discussed the importance of continued U.S.-EU cooperation in the region.
