Rita Ora’s plans to build a gym in the garden of her luxury residence in North London have stirred significant discontent in the neighborhood. The internationally renowned Albanian singer bought the property, classified as a Grade II listed building, in 2021 for £7.5 million.
However, it seems she was unaware that she was moving near a group of NIMBY (“Not In My Back Yard”) neighbors, who had previously voiced objections to renovations of her home.
After Rita’s architect submitted plans for a gym in the garden, opposition quickly arose. A group of residents from a nearby apartment block filed a joint complaint stating:
“Residents who chose this area for its tranquility should not be forced to live with artificial lighting, amplified noise, or loss of privacy.”
They added that although the project includes acoustic insulation, the large sliding doors suggest there could be music and loud voices at any hour.
The neighbors recall that a strict rule exists in an adjacent property banning large gatherings and parties, to preserve peace and mutual respect among residents.
“This proposal undermines the mutual agreement to maintain peace and risks causing conflicts, complaints, or even legal action,” the complaint continues.
Another resident expressed concern that the gym’s construction might disturb local wildlife, such as bats and foxes living in the area.
Despite the controversy, Rita Ora’s project plans specify that the gym will be fully soundproofed.
