Acting Minister of Economy Artane Rizvanolli has reacted to the energy situation in Kosovo.

In a post on social media, she wrote that three units of the Kosovo Energy Corporation (KEK)—B1, A4, and A5—are currently operational.

According to her, technical teams are working in three shifts, nonstop for 24 hours, to bring units B2 and A3 back into operation as quickly as possible, reports IndeksOnline.

“I was informed by management that the two units, B2 and A3, are expected to return to operation by tomorrow evening,” she wrote.

Full statement:

📍 KEK: Coal Production Division, TPP ‘Kosova A’, TPP ‘Kosova B’

Currently, three units (B1, A4, and A5) of the Kosovo Energy Corporation are operational, while technical teams are working in three shifts, 24 hours a day without interruption, to restore units B2 and A3 to operation as soon as possible.

Management has informed me that the two units, B2 and A3, are expected to return to operation tomorrow evening.

During this cold period, when demand is high, we expect KEK to operate with five units. Although this is challenging, TPP Kosova A has operated with all three of its units simultaneously for 22 days—from December 19 until today—for which we are grateful to every worker and manager who represent the backbone of our power system. By comparison, over the past 25 years, KEK has operated with five units for only 55 days in total.

I expect maximum commitment and responsibility from management and every KEK employee to bring all units into operation and keep them running during these cold months.

A regular coal supply from the Coal Production Division is a prerequisite for maintaining uninterrupted operation of these units; therefore, I expect dedication and responsibility throughout the entire production chain. At the same time, I express my gratitude and appreciation for the selfless efforts of workers who, under difficult conditions, are keeping the system running with three units while working in parallel to restore the remaining ones.

Finally, I call on citizens to save energy as much as possible, especially during this period of high demand, so that together we can contribute to the country’s energy security.
