The Ambassador of Germany in Kosovo, Jorn Rohde, has reacted after the detention of five Kosovo policemen by the Serbian authorities.
He said that de-escalation should happen now, while he added that Serbia’s action is unacceptable and not something that can be expected from a candidate country for membership in the European Union.
Rohde said that this should end immediately and that we expect Serbian politicians to raise their voices for their fellow citizens.
“Scaling now! The detention of Kosovo law enforcement officials, including Serbs, by Serbian authorities is unacceptable and certainly not something that can be expected from an EU candidate country. This must end immediately and we expect Serbian politicians to raise their voices for their fellow citizens”, wrote Rohde in “X”.
Today at the meeting of the Government of Kosovo, Prime Minister Kurti said that five police officers are being held, including the Deputy Director General of the Kosovo Police, Dejan Jankovic.
“Serbia detained at the border for over 20 hours hundreds of citizens of our country, who used Serbia not as a destination, but as a transit to return or go to EU countries. Among those arrested and detained was the deputy director of the Kosovo Police, Dejan Jankovic, from the ranks of the non-Majority Serb community in Kosovo. According to the information we have, he was sent to Rashka. We know from the past that in case of being sent there, those who are detained are interviewed by various actors of the Serbian state. Yesterday, a total of 10 members of the Kosovo Police, Serbs and Albanians, were detained at the border crossings in Merdare, Jarinje and Dheu i Bardhë and at the border between Croatia and Serbia. Five of them have been released, while five were still in custody, including Jankovic. But there are also Sinisha Miliq, Zoran Marinković, Boban Simeunović and Ramiz Ibrahimi”.
Yesterday during the day many Kosovar travelers were blocked by the Serbian police on the border with Hungary and Croatia and after many hours they were released to continue their journey.
