German Ambassador Jorn Rohde, in an interview with RTK, stated that the decision of the Serbian List to boycott the voting process for the dismissal of officials in the northern part of the country is not a constructive policy and harms the Serbs in that region.
Rohde said that for 18 months there have been only boycotts and that the Serbian List, after the renewed call for boycott, should also be prepared for consequences.
“In a rule of law state, if you don’t have the power to change things, boycott is the least necessary. Therefore, we invite all citizens and political parties in the north to do their utmost to participate in this process and conclude it. We want a result where mayors and municipal assemblies are elected, which will reflect the majority of residents there, and at the moment, that’s not the case.
And this with boycotts and the call for boycott, then this goes completely in another direction. For 18 months we have only had boycotts and this is not a constructive policy. The government of Kosovo has offered a democratic process for Serbs in the north and this offer must be accepted by the Serbs. Now, we expect them to accept this. I don’t understand why this shouldn’t happen. If the Serbian List calls for a boycott then they must also consider the consequences,” Ambassador Rohde declared in an interview with RTK, which will be broadcast in full on the “Latest News” magazine at 22:30.
