Romania and Ukraine Plan Joint Production of Neptune Missiles
Romania is planning to collaborate with Ukraine to produce R-360 Neptune anti-ship missiles, following the example of other European nations bolstering their defense ties with Ukraine. This cooperation is aimed at securing the Black Sea region, an area of strategic importance given the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
The Neptune missile system, which gained notoriety after being used to sink the Russian cruiser Moskva in 2022, is undergoing modifications to extend its range and capabilities. Ukraine has been actively working on enhancing this missile to target land-based threats, with plans to increase its range from 300 km to potentially 1000 km. This collaboration with Romania is seen as a strategic move to reinforce both nations’ defenses and maintain control over the Black Sea waters.
