Former German minister Michael Roth said he never imagined that he would see a convicted war criminal and the person responsible for the Srebrenica genocide being received with state honors in Belgrade.

Roth said that honoring the body of convicted war criminal Ratko Mladić demonstrates how far Serbia remains from the reconciliation that the Western Balkans so urgently need.

“I never thought I would see a convicted war criminal, the person responsible for the Srebrenica genocide, receive state honors in Belgrade. This shows how far Serbia is from the reconciliation that the Western Balkans so desperately need. Thank you to all Serbs who are publicly speaking out against this disgrace,” Roth wrote.
