Michael Roth, the Chair of the Bundestag’s Foreign Affairs Committee, has voiced his strong support for the ongoing student protests in Serbia, where thousands are demonstrating against President Aleksandar Vučić’s autocratic rule.

Roth, who previously served as Germany’s Foreign Minister, expressed his solidarity on social media, stating, “There is hope. For Serbia too. Tens of thousands of students are fighting against Vučić’s autocracy and demonstrating for European values. My full solidarity with all Serbs committed to freedom and democracy.”

The protests in Serbia, led by students and opposition groups, have been growing in response to concerns over democratic backsliding and increasing authoritarianism under Vučić’s government. The protests highlight a demand for reforms, freedom, and the restoration of democratic principles in the country.

Roth’s statement reflects Germany’s continued support for the pro-democracy movement in Serbia, aligning with broader European Union values. His remarks have been welcomed by many Serbian activists who are fighting for a democratic future free from authoritarian rule.
