Pristina, August 6, 2025 — Adnan Rrustemi, a member of the Presidency of the Vetëvendosje Movement, stated that the Constitutional Court of Kosovo must authorize the President to call extraordinary elections following the expiration of the temporary measure suspending the constitutive session of the Assembly scheduled for August 8.
According to Rrustemi, the failure of deputies to fulfill their primary constitutional duty—to constitute the Assembly—justifies returning the mandate to the people.
“All the Constitutional Court needs to do is confirm that the deputies have failed in their primary duty of constituting the Assembly, and as a result, have also failed to operationalize their mandate. Therefore, the mandate must be returned to the voters by authorizing the President to announce early elections, either based on Article 84 or 82 of the Constitution,” Rrustemi stated on Tëvë1.
He emphasized that Vetëvendosje is not seeking or desiring new elections, but sees them as inevitable.
“I don’t see any other way to resolve this situation without the element of early elections,” he added.
Rrustemi also affirmed that Vetëvendosje will respect any decision made by the Constitutional Court.
On Tuesday, President Vjosa Osmani announced that she had withdrawn her request from the Constitutional Court, after learning that Judge Radomir Laban had been assigned to the case. According to Osmani, Laban poses a threat to the constitutional order.
