The workers of RTK, Kosovo’s public broadcaster, announced that they will start a daily general strike from Monday, running from 11:00 to 13:00 each day.
According to the RTK Workers’ Union (SPERTK), the strike will affect all departments including editorial, administration, finance, archives, camera, gallery, master, technical, production, directing, editing, audio, and all supporting units, with no exceptions.
The union stated that the strike follows a long period of ignored demands and a critical situation affecting both staff and the functioning of the institution, with salaries blocked and the continuity of RTK seriously threatened.
SPERTK is demanding that RTK management clearly refuse involvement in the election campaign, warning that without such a decision, staff could face unfair pressure. The union also announced that a full boycott of the elections could be initiated if management fails to act.
Additionally, the strike will soon be accompanied by a public protest in front of the Government building, emphasizing that the situation at RTK has exceeded all limits of tolerance.
“Our only goal is the urgent resolution of the salary issue and ensuring the normal functioning of RTK. Since there is no active parliament, we call on the Government, specifically the Ministry of Finance, to take the necessary action immediately. If funds are found for elections, they must also be allocated for RTK. Public media cannot be left in collapse,” the union said.
