The RTK Workers’ Union has warned that if employees’ salaries are not paid within the legal deadline, from November 1 to 5, immediate measures will be taken, including public statements, union actions, and legal steps.

The union addressed its demands to the management and board of RTK, emphasizing that these measures aim to protect workers’ rights and ensure the proper functioning of Kosovo’s public broadcaster.

In a statement, the union stressed the urgency of finding a financial solution, whether through cooperation with banks, a temporary overdraft, or any other mechanism, to prevent employees from remaining unpaid.

The union also called on the acting government to act promptly, as it did in August when €2.5 million was allocated to secure RTK’s operations.

“This intervention is essential to prevent the social and institutional consequences that may arise from unpaid salaries. It is concerning and unacceptable that the only public broadcaster in Kosovo is left without a budget, while its programming, broadcasting, and the livelihoods of over 700 families dependent on RTK are at risk,” the statement reads.

The union highlighted that while salary increases are being announced nationwide, RTK employees have not received any increase, nor is there sufficient budget to cover their wages. “RTK workers are not seeking privileges, only the salaries legally due to them,” the union said.

Earlier this month, the union also called on the Kosovo Assembly to intervene urgently to secure budget allocations for the public broadcaster and prevent a repeat of the August crisis, when employees were left unpaid and RTK’s operations were jeopardized.
