Former U.S. Assistant Secretary of State, James Rubin, concluded his testimony today at the Special Court in The Hague.

Rubin is expected to continue his testimony tomorrow at 09:00, as announced by Judge Charles Smith at the end of today’s session.

The experienced American diplomat testified in defense of Hashim Thaçi and other former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (UÇK), who have been held in detention in The Hague since November 2020, facing charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity allegedly committed during the Kosovo war.

During today’s testimony, Rubin emphasized that Thaçi’s role was political and that he did not have executive authority over military decisions within the UÇK.

According to Rubin, Thaçi had to obtain approval from regional commanders for any major decision.

Regarding the accusations linking Thaçi to war crimes and similar offenses, Rubin stated that these had been investigated, and U.S. government information confirmed that they were not accurate but originated from Serbian sources.
