James Rubin, former senior U.S. official and current defense witness in the trial of Hashim Thaçi, was questioned by the Prosecution regarding the origins of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers.
The discussion turned to the infamous allegations made by former Swiss senator Dick Marty, who had accused the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) of organ trafficking. The prosecutor challenged the relevance of those accusations, but Thaçi’s lawyer, Luka Mišetić, insisted that the very foundation of the Specialist Chambers was tied to Marty’s report—allegations which, crucially, never appeared in the indictment against Thaçi and others.
When asked directly about Marty’s claims, Rubin responded:
“I believe nothing ever came out of that.”
This exchange highlights the disconnect between the controversial origins of the Specialist Chambers and the actual charges brought against former KLA leaders.
