More now from U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who spoke earlier today on ABC’s This Week. He said the administration’s hope is that “90 percent” of the negotiations will be completed by the time White House officials arrive in Cairo.
As reported, delegations from the United States, Israel, and Hamas are heading to Egypt to discuss the proposal, with indirect talks between Israel and Hamas expected to begin on Monday, according to an Egyptian official and three Israeli sources.
Rubio stated that although he does not fully trust Hamas leaders, progress is nonetheless being made in the negotiations.
“I’m not saying these are people we can trust 100%, nor should we — but they have essentially agreed to this proposal and to the framework for the release of hostages,” Rubio said. “That’s an extraordinary achievement.”
