The U.S. top diplomat has said he sees promise in Ukraine’s proposal for a partial ceasefire to end the war with Russia, ahead of talks in Saudi Arabia between American and Ukrainian officials later on Tuesday.

“I’m not saying this alone will be enough, but it’s the type of concession that will be needed to end the conflict,” U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Monday.

Kyiv is expected to propose an air and maritime ceasefire with Russia during the negotiations in Jeddah, a Ukrainian official told AFP, according to the BBC, as reported by Sinjali.

Russia has previously dismissed the idea of a temporary ceasefire, calling it an attempt to buy time and prevent Ukraine’s military collapse.
