U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky should apologize after his meeting with President Donald Trump in the Oval Office turned into what Rubio described as a “failure,” while questioning whether the Ukrainian leader truly wants peace in the war with Russia.
In an interview with CNN, Rubio urged Zelensky to “apologize for turning this into a failure for him,” after his meeting at the White House with Trump and Vice President JD Vance turned into a verbal clash.
“He didn’t need to become an antagonist,” Rubio said on Friday.
“When you start talking about this aggressively – and the president is someone who makes deals, he’s made deals his whole life – you won’t bring people to the table,” Rubio continued.
“And so, you begin to perceive that maybe Zelensky doesn’t want a peace deal. He says he does, but maybe he doesn’t,” Rubio added.
